4-H Camp at Lake Cumberland, KY See Doug's write-up & description below |
A group of my not-so-young friends and I (never give up your youth) decided that summer didn't have to end with Labor Day. Every year, our group, known as the "B" Team plans a long weekend at the 4-H camp on Lake Cumberland. We have had as many as 22 people in some years and new comers are always welcome. The camp is located in the north shore of the lake, close to Nancy, KY. Some of us even begin the weekend as early as Thursday night but some arrive as late as Saturday afternoon. We have access to the cabins (very rustic, but heated) which each have 3 private bedrooms, a central bunk area for campers, and one bathroom. The cost of the cabins is approximately $ 6 per person, per night. We have access to the main camp kitchen and dining hall for the entire weekend and menus are planned in advance. In recent years, the cost of the weekend from Friday night to Sunday afternoon has worked out to about $ 35 per person for the food and lodging. The days are spent exploring the woods or walking down to the lake (a boat may be available to us this year) or just sitting around the dining hall, playing cards and games. Breakfast is usually a big meal, lunch is basically soup and sandwiches and dinner is another big meal. (Usually a spaghetti supper on Friday and Steaks or chicken on Saturday) Beverages are the responsibility of each individual and a walk in cooler is located in the main kitchen. The date of the trip this year is October 7, 8 and 9. If you are interested or want more information, I will be at the next dive club meeting or you may call me at 259-1747 and leave a message. I do return calls.
